What Built In is

Built In sells city tech-scene media: employer profiles, local events, and job posts aimed at that metro. Companies pay to look current in a city brand. The job list is a media product as much as a feed.

Why that is a weaker way to find new jobs

A role appears when the employer (or Built In) updates the city site, which can be after the Workday or Greenhouse requisition already opened. National and non-member employers are easy to miss. “New in Chicago tech” is not the same as “first posted on the career site this week.”
