RecentlyPostedJobs vs Otta
Why RecentlyPostedJobs is better than Otta at finding newly posted software, data science and AI jobs.
Otta (now under Welcome to the Jungle) curates tech jobs and asks you to match through an account.
| When you are looking | Otta | RecentlyPostedJobs |
|---|---|---|
| Where jobs come from | Curated marketplace inventory | Probed employer career portals |
| What “new” means | When the marketplace listed or refreshed it | First-seen last 7 days |
| Same job posted again | Can be re-featured | Same id never new twice |
| Where you apply | Through the Otta / WTTJ flow | Employer job page |
| Role mix | Mostly tech, editorially selected | Software, data science, and AI, unfiltered by editors |
What Otta is
Otta built a reputation for human-curated software jobs and a preference quiz. Welcome to the Jungle continues that curated-marketplace model: you sign in, describe what you want, and receive a shortlist. The editorial layer is the product.
Why that is a weaker way to find new jobs
Curation is a bottleneck. You see what the marketplace chose to feature, on their refresh cycle, after an account. That is slower and narrower than watching the employer ATS for a requisition that opened today — especially at companies Otta is not currently promoting.
Why RecentlyPostedJobs is better
- The recent feed is the live probed career sites, not a curated subset behind a quiz.
- Original posting date is an ATS field, not a marketplace “went live on Otta” date.
- No account is required to browse or follow an apply link.
- When a requisition is new this week, it is on the specialty page even if no editor featured it.
- Culture writeups and match quizzes do not decide what counts as new. The employer timestamp does.
- You get the full first-seen week, not a shortlist an editor already filtered for someone else.
