Job description
Our Annapurna Labs team at Amazon is looking for a Software Development Engineer to own the regression infrastructure that every manufacturing software release depends on. Before new test software reaches a production line, it is validated on real hardware, both in our lab and at our manufacturing sites. You will own those regression systems end to end: the hardware they run on, and the software that keeps them configured, connected and healthy at all times. You'll build the automation that detects problems and repairs systems without manual work, so regression is always ready to gate a release. This is a software role at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, hardware and networking.
AWS Trainium is at the center of the AI infrastructure race, and our mission is "Silicon never waits." This is a new, high-visibility area with no existing owner, so you'll have wide room to define the architecture, choose the approach and grow the scope as we scale to more sites and new platforms.
Key job responsibilities
- Own the regression infrastructure in our lab and at manufacturing sites, and extend it to every site
- Build software (Python, Go, TypeScript, Java or C++) that configures, monitors and maintains the servers, firmware and network devices regression depends on
- Automate repair: detect failures, recover systems through software, escalate only when hands-on work is needed
- Keep software and firmware versions consistent across lab, manufacturing and fleet environments
- Feed infrastructure health into release pipelines so releases reflect real hardware state
- Partner with hardware, firmware, network and test teams to set standards and clear ownership
- Write runbooks, join on-call, and lead root-cause reviews
A day in the life
You might start by reviewing overnight health reports for the regression systems and checking that every system is configured, connected and ready. Then you could dig into a recurring failure, write the automation that detects and repairs it, and add a health check so that release pipelines see the result. In the afternoon you might review a teammate's design, join a call with hardware or network engineers to agree on a recovery approach, or plan the next site rollout. Your work keeps releases moving, so every hour you save is an hour sooner that new hardware reaches customers.
About the team
Manufacturing Automation & Deployment, part of Annapurna ML, builds and runs the software platform that tests and validates AWS Trainium hardware at manufacturing sites worldwide. We deliver test software to active production lines with the release discipline of a cloud service: staged rollouts, regression gates, automated alarming and fast rollback. Our work directly enables the manufacturing ramp of AWS's custom AI chips.
Machine Learning Accelerators (MLA) is building AI-native racks faster than anyone in the industry, from custom silicon to full rack assembly, and every engineer who joins has room to make a real impact on it.
