Job description

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward. The Go Google3 team is responsible for integrating the Go programming language across Google’s internal ecosystem for first-party developers. We own and optimize the Go toolchain, core libraries, build system integrations, and developer tooling within Google3, ensuring high performance, safety, and operational scalability. Go is essential for modern AI systems, serving as a primary language for agent harnesses and runtime frameworks like Beyond Agency, Jetski, and the Gemini App. Furthermore, Go's fast start-up times and zero-dependency single-binary distribution make it ideal for creating the sidecars, CLI tools, and environment integrations that agents frequently invoke. The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Germany: €106000 - €108000 (EUR) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits Learn more about benefits at Google . Own and maintain Google's core Go libraries and toolchain integrations, modernizing them to meet the needs of first-party customers and advanced AI infrastructure. Drive agentification of routine maintenance tasks, leveraging AI to build a self-maintaining Go ecosystem within Google3 and accelerate engineering velocity. Clean up, curate, and optimize internal Go packages, facilitating seamless third-party imports and open-source migrations. Enhance Go developer ergonomics, startup performance, and dependency management for critical CLI tools and agentic loop sidecars. Develop and maintain operational tooling for debugging, profiling, and monitoring Go services and agents across Google's infrastructure. Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience. 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture. 2 years of experience with software development in Go. Preferred qualifications: Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields. 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms. Experience developing accessible technologies. Experience working with core language libraries or compilers. Experience with open source software.
