Job description
Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
The Pixel Onboarding team's mission is to enable new Pixel owners to be successfully onboarded with minimal effort.
As a Software Engineer on the Pixel Onboarding team, you will design, build, and optimize the critical user journeys that welcome users to their new Pixel devices—spanning the out-of-box experience, seamless device-to-device pairing and connectivity, and fast, reliable data migration and Backup & Restore. Working across Android system applications, mobile services, and cross-platform device connectivity, you will build high-reliability production software that removes friction from switching and device setup for millions of Pixel users worldwide.
The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s software and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.
Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain core Pixel Onboarding software across Android system applications, Setup Wizard (OOBE) flows, and cross-device pairing and setup journeys.
Improve end-to-end setup speed, connection reliability, and transfer completion quality across Device-to-Device
(D2D) data migration and Backup & Restore workflows.
Partner closely with cross-functional teams including Product Management, UX, Android Platform, system services, and application partners to align end-to-end architecture and deliver cohesive onboarding user journeys.
Own feature stabilization, telemetry instrumentation, setup funnel metrics analysis, and issue resolution to meet quality and reliability targets.
Build and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end automated test suites to ensure high reliability and prevent regressions.
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (Java or Kotlin).
2 years of experience with Android application development.
Preferred qualifications:
Master's degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
2 years of experience in Android application, system UI, or framework/system service software development using Java or Kotlin.
Proven track record of collaborating across multiple engineering, PM, and UX teams to deliver consumer-facing mobile software on hardware release schedules.
