Job description

Thank you for considering a career at Ensemble! Ensemble is a leading provider of technology-enabled revenue cycle management solutions for health systems, including hospitals and affiliated physician groups. They offer end-to-end revenue cycle solutions as well as a comprehensive suite of point solutions to clients across the country. Ensemble keeps communities healthy by keeping hospitals healthy. We recognize that healthcare requires a human touch, and we believe that every touch should be meaningful. This is why our people are the most important part of who we are. By empowering them to challenge the status quo, we know they will be the difference! O.N.E Purpose: Customer Obsession: Consistently provide exceptional experiences for our clients, patients, and colleagues by understanding their needs and exceeding their expectations. Embracing New Ideas: Continuously innovate by embracing emerging technology and fostering a culture of creativity and experimentation. Striving for Excellence: Execute at a high level by demonstrating our “Best in KLAS” Ensemble Difference Principles and consistently delivering outstanding results. The Opportunity: Most people have experienced the healthcare revenue cycle without ever hearing the term. An ER bill arrives months later because you changed jobs and the claim went to a prior insurer. An MRI is scheduled only after a prior authorization clears between the hospital and the payer. Multiplied across millions of patients and hundreds of payers, these small operations consume an enormous share of the time and money that could go toward care. Ensemble is the leading revenue cycle platform for acute care. We run end-to-end revenue cycle operations for more than 200 hospitals, manage over $47 billion in net patient revenue, and partner with more unique health systems than any other firm. That footprint gives us something no startup has: a decade of operational knowledge about how this work actually gets done, and a data platform that turns that experience into repeatable, measurable rules and intelligent agents. The Intelligent Automation Platform team turns that advantage into software. We build Task Agents that execute revenue cycle work at massive scale — across payer portals, client host systems, remote desktops, and enterprise applications where APIs are often unavailable. Because we know the workflows and outcomes in detail, we can choose the most efficient path to each result: a direct API where one exists, AI-enhanced computer use where it doesn't. The hard part is doing this where errors are expensive, every action must be auditable, and the system has to keep working when a portal changes overnight. We pair computer-use automation, AI-assisted authoring, and self-healing with deterministic execution, rigorous observability, and appropriate human oversight. This is a hands-on platform engineering role. You will evolve the platform, build reusable capabilities and production Task Agents, solve reliability and scale problems, and partner with product and operations teams to turn complex manual workflows into durable products. We hire across multiple levels and are looking for engineers who want to work at the intersection of distributed systems, automation, cloud infrastructure, and applied AI — and who want their work to show up as better outcomes for hospitals and patients. You Will Design, build, deploy, operate, and continuously improve production platform capabilities and Task Agents end to end. Build reusable services, APIs, SDKs, automation components, and platform abstractions rather than solving each workflow as a one-off implementation. Develop Task Agents that work across APIs, browser interfaces, computer-use workflows, data stores, messaging systems, and enterprise applications. Evolve platform capabilities for authoring, deterministic execution, AI-assisted self-healing, testing, orchestration, observability, auditability, and operational control. Apply AI and LLM capabilities where they meaningfully improve Task Agent development, recovery, reasoning, or user experience while maintaining reliable and observable production execution. Design systems that operate reliably at scale, diagnosing bottlenecks and improving performance, availability, cost, and operational efficiency. Own software beyond implementation, including automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, incident response, debugging, and lifecycle improvement. Work with users and product partners to understand workflow problems, prototype solutions, measure outcomes, and iterate from production feedback. Evaluate open-source technologies, cloud services, AI models, and commercial products and make pragmatic build-versus-buy decisions. Mentor engineers through design discussions, code reviews, debugging, and hands-on technical collaboration. You Have Five or more years of hands-on software engineering experience building and operating production SaaS applications, platforms, or distributed systems. Strong fundamentals in software design, REST APIs, data structures, distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and event-driven architectures. Strong proficiency in Python and experience with one or more additional modern languages such as Java, TypeScript/JavaScript or C#/.NET. Experience owning production systems end to end, including architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, observability, reliability, and production support. Experience with modern cloud platforms and engineering practices, including Azure or AWS, Docker, Kubernetes or container orchestration, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, relational databases, and observability tooling. Experience designing reusable platform capabilities, APIs, SDKs, internal developer tooling, or services consumed by other teams. Experience identifying and solving production performance, reliability, or scale problems. A product mindset and a desire to understand users, outcomes, and operational context rather than simply implementing requirements. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain technical tradeoffs clearly. Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to other engineers. Great to Have Hands-on experience integrating LLMs or AI models into production software, including model APIs, structured outputs, tool use, retrieval, agents, evaluation, or inference infrastructure. Experience with browser automation, computer-use automation, RPA, Playwright, Stagehand, Selenium, UiPath, Power Automate, or similar technologies. Experience building systems where deterministic software and AI capabilities work together to automate complex workflows safely and reliably. Experience with production AI concerns such as evaluation, grounding, model selection, latency, cost management, rate limiting, observability, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop workflows. Experience with FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Redis, Databricks, Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, SageMaker, or comparable technologies. Experience building systems in healthcare, fintech, or another regulated environment. Familiarity with healthcare integration standards or platforms such as FHIR, HL7, Epic, or payer systems. This position pays between $100,000-150,000 based on experience Must be inquisitive and demonstrate openness to innovation including AI to explore better processes and ways to alleviate friction and improve patient and client experiences. This is a remote position; however, candidates must be willing and able to travel to and work onsite at client, temporary, or corporate office locations as business needs require. #LI-BT1 #LI-Remote Join an award-winning company Five-time winner of “Best in KLAS” 2020-2022, 2024-2025 Black Book Research's Top Revenue Cycle Management Outsourcing Solution 2021-2024 22 Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) MAP Awards for High Performance in Revenue Cycle 2019-2024 Leader in Everest Group's RCM Operations PEAK Matrix Assessment 2024 Clarivate Healthcare Business Insights (HBI) Revenue Cycle Awards for strong performance 2020, 2022-2023 Energage Top Workplaces USA 2022-2024 Fortune Media Best Workplaces in Healthcare 2024 Monster Top Workplace for Remote Work 2024 Great Place to Work certified 2023-2024 Innovation Work-Life Flexibility Leadership Purpose + Values Bottom line, we believe in empowering people and giving them the tools and resources needed to thrive.
