Job description

Staff Software Developer, Energy & Commodities Location: New York or London (hybrid, 4 days per week in office) Clearwater Analytics is the leading SaaS platform for investment accounting, risk, and performance. We serve some of the world's largest insurance companies, hedge funds, asset managers, and institutional investors. We deliver decision-ready risk analytics that bring clarity and insight to multi-asset portfolios, highlighting exposures, sensitivities, scenarios, and performance drivers. As a Staff Software Developer on the Energy & Commodities team, you will provide technical leadership for the systems that capture and manage commodity trades and their risk on our platform. You will own the architecture of trade capture, trade lifecycle, and risk workflows for energy and commodity products. You will work closely with the Quantitative Developers who build our pricing libraries, with Product Managers, and directly with clients. You will set technical direction, lead through influence across teams, and raise the engineering standard of the team. What You'll Do Own the end-to-end architecture of trade capture, trade lifecycle, position management, and risk workflows for global commodities (OTC and exchange-traded, financial and physical). Design and build the platform frameworks that consume pricing libraries: deal models, market data and curve management, risk batch execution (e.g. Greeks, VaR, scenario analysis), cashflow generation, and reporting. Translate business, functional, and client requirements into system-level designs and technical roadmaps, in partnership with Product Managers and Quantitative Developers. Define and communicate architectural standards and design patterns for the team, and lead design and code reviews. Lead multi-service projects that span codebases in other languages like Java,`` TypeScript, and Rust, and ensure timely, high-quality delivery. Drive improvements in containerized deployment, cloud architecture, observability, and performance of workloads. Mentor fellow engineers in technical design and software engineering practice. Produce high-quality documentation that supports and expands engineering solutions, for both technical and non-technical audiences. Continuously improve best practices for AI use in development, operations, and the products themselves. What We're Looking For 9+ years of professional software development experience, including significant production work in Python. Experience in energy and commodities technology, such as ETRM/CTRM products, trading and risk systems at an energy trading firm, utility, or bank commodity desk, or front-office development that supports commodity trading. Knowledge of market conventions, deal structures, and trade lifecycle events for derivatives. Demonstrated ability to work across multiple languages and DBMSes. Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and containerized deployment pipelines. Experience designing and operating systems on a public cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Proven architecture and design expertise, and the ability to lead through influence as a senior technical lead. Ability to understand unfamiliar code bases quickly and to debug complex production systems. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain architectural decisions and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders. What Will Make You Stand Out Development experience on a graph-based pricing and risk platform (Beacon, Quartz, Athena, or SecDB). Production experience in many languages and DBMSes. Experience building real-time trading and risk systems. Financial engineering knowledge and experience. Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging systems.
