Job description
Job description:
Data Platform Engineer
At Johnson Controls, you will help build and operate data platforms that enable trusted analytics and decision-making across the business. In this role, you will support a secure, scalable environment for data consumers and help advance how teams' access and use governed data.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Data Platform Engineer with 3-6 years of experience to support the design, operation, and improvement of a modern data platform. You will work with Snowflake and related data engineering tools to enable high-quality, secure, and well-governed data consumption for analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders. This is a hands-on role focused on reliability, access patterns, and platform enablement.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and operate a secure and scalable data platform in Snowflake.
Support governed data consumption by implementing reliable structures, access patterns, and platform controls.
Collaborate with data consumers to understand needs and remove friction in how they access and use data.
Develop and maintain data pipelines, transformations, and supporting workflows for analytics use cases.
Implement secure access patterns for humans, applications, and AI-driven tools.
Monitor platform health, troubleshoot issues, and improve performance, stability, and usability.
Support the Posit (RStudio) platform used by data scientists and advanced analysts.
Document platform processes, data workflows, and operational standards.
Work closely with analytics, engineering, and business teams to support data quality and platform adoption.
How You Will Do It
Own the outcome with accountability by delivering reliable, secure, and well-controlled platform services.
Stay close to the work by understanding how analysts, data scientists, and business teams actually use the platform.
Look for root causes, improve the platform continuously, and address issues with candor and practical problem-solving.
Work as one team by partnering across technical and business groups, sharing context, and building trust.
Balance speed and control so the platform remains useful, safe, and maintainable as demand grows.
Use clear documentation and disciplined operating practices to support consistency and handoffs.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
3-6 years of experience in data engineering, data platform engineering, or a closely related role.
Hands-on experience with Snowflake and modern cloud data platform concepts.
Strong SQL skills for data manipulation, validation, and troubleshooting.
Experience building or supporting data pipelines, transformations, or analytics data models.
Working knowledge of data governance, secure access, and data quality practices.
Experience collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Nice to Have
Experience with Posit (RStudio), Python, or other analytics development environments.
Exposure to Azure Data Factory, Fivetran, Snowpark, dbt, or Airflow.
Experience supporting workforce analytics or other business intelligence environments.
Familiarity with CI/CD practices, Git, or Azure DevOps.
Exposure to secure access patterns for application, service, or AI-based data consumption.
