Job description
Build the platform that keeps healthcare connected.
As a
Software Engineer
, you’ll join our Halifax engineering team to help grow the communications platform used by other Resmed teams to connect with patients and healthcare providers. Today, the platform supports email and SMS, with a roadmap to expand into more communication channels, consumer and provider functionality, and AI-powered routing and optimization.
You’ll contribute across the software lifecycle, from design and development through testing, deployment and production support. This is an opportunity to add engineering capacity to a growing platform while helping modernize existing services and build capabilities designed for long-term scale.
What You'll Do
Build and maintain production web services that power Resmed’s communications platform.
Develop new platform capabilities as the team expands beyond email and SMS into additional communication channels and experiences.
Contribute hands-on to coding, system design and architectural decisions.
Help modernize existing services, reduce technical debt and bring solutions towards current engineering standards.
Own your work across the development lifecycle, including testing, deployment and production support.
Partner with engineers, architects, product managers and stakeholders to deliver scalable and reliable software.
Improve code quality, testing and automation while contributing to a culture of shared learning and continuous improvement.
What You Bring
4+ years of professional software development experience.
Expert-level Java experience, with a strong foundation in object-oriented design and clean code principles.
Extensive experience with AWS services and serverless technologies, including AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB and S3.
Hands-on experience with NoSQL and relational databases such as DynamoDB, MySQL or PostgreSQL.
Strong understanding of RESTful API design, authentication and authorization frameworks such as OAuth2 and JWT, and microservices architectures.
Experience supporting software through testing, deployment and production, with an end-to-end approach to delivery.
A track record of mentoring and supporting fellow engineers through constructive feedback and knowledge sharing.
Experience with Docker/Kubernetes, containerized environments, message-brokering systems such as SQS or SNS, or event-driven architectures.
Nice to Have
Exposure to DevOps and software testing practices, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, monitoring and automated testing.
Experience with modern web development using JavaScript or TypeScript with React.js and/or Next.js.
What Sets You Apart
Learning mindset:
You’re curious, adaptable and comfortable learning as technology continues to evolve.
End-to-end ownership:
You stay connected to your work beyond writing code and care about how it performs once it reaches production.
Collaborative approach:
You work openly with others, share what you know and help teammates grow.
Practical judgement:
You weigh immediate business needs alongside the longer-term health of the platform.
Continuous improvement:
You look for thoughtful ways to improve existing systems, practices and ways of working.
