About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Software Engineer to help build OpenBlue, Johnson Controls' smart-building platform. You'll work as part of a cross-functional team, build features end to end with a good degree of independence, and share your knowledge with less experienced engineers.
Responsibilities
Develop features end to end, from design through to production, with minimal supervision.
Contribute to technical design and design discussions for microservices, APIs and web applications.
Build and maintain microservices, APIs and web applications.
Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code that follows team standards.
Take part in code reviews, giving and receiving constructive feedback, and help mentor junior engineers.
Run or support proofs of concept (PoCs) to evaluate new technologies and approaches.
Troubleshoot and fix issues in development, test and production environments.
Follow secure coding practices and help keep solutions scalable and performant.
Use AI-assisted development tools to speed up delivery.
Work with product, UX, QA and DevOps teams across locations to plan and deliver work.
Requirements
6+ years of software development experience, including significant hands-on full stack work.
Strong working knowledge of TypeScript, React and Node.js (NestJS preferred).
Experience building REST APIs and designing PostgreSQL or other relational data models.
Good understanding of microservices concepts; exposure to gRPC is a plus.
Good understanding of web security, automated testing and CI/CD.
Working knowledge of Docker; experience with Kubernetes, preferably on Azure, is a plus.
Good communication and problem-solving skills.
Nice to Have
Exposure to Kafka, Redis or real-time data streaming.
Experience working on multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
Interest in or experience with IoT or building systems.
