Job description

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward. With your technical expertise you will manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions. Lead kernel and bootloader (LK) debugging across the Pixel portfolio, with a primary focus on enabling both on-device and off-device AI-powered diagnostics. Define and implement the on-device pre and post-crash data collection pipeline and collaborate with stability stakeholders to ensure off-device AI agents can effectively process telemetry for automated triage and deduplication. Establish the technical processes needed to drive the automated resolution of complex system crashes from diagnosis to implementation and testing. Operate at the forefront of stability integration across all Pixel devices, this position will both diagnose critical low-level issues and build the foundational tooling required to deliver a seamless, AI-driven debugging experience. Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. 5 years of experience in delivering embedded Linux or Android stacks for products. Experience with silicon-level hardware mechanisms (e.g., caches, mailboxes, interrupts, interconnect/fabric, coresight etc.). Experience with kernel debugging tools and mechanisms (e.g., kdb, gdb, ksymoops, panic flows, ftrace/traces, ramdumps, etc.). Experience developing and debugging bootloader environments (e.g., Little Kernel (LK), uboot, redboot). Experience in cloud Large Language Model (LLM) input integration (e.g., Gemini/agentic workflows) and on-device/embedded AI model integration (NPU). Preferred qualifications: 5 years of experience as a tech lead within a kernel and bootloader team. Experience as a kernel developer and low-level debugger/hacker. Experience working with silicon design teams. Experience with Over-The-Air (OTA) system (A/B Android upgrade). Proficiency with hardware debugging systems (Trace32) as well as Rust, C, and Python.
