Job description

AWS Applied AI Solutions (AAIS) is building toward a future where every business innovates with Amazon AI teammates. To get there, we build AI solutions that improve human capabilities and transform entire business functions. We create end-to-end products that surprise and delight out-of-the-box, making complex things easy and hard things possible, with no cloud experience required. We start with customers who embrace the future and build bridges to meet the rest where they are. We pursue ambitious opportunities with conviction, and we are looking for builders who share that mindset. AWS IoT is building the infrastructure to deliver AI from the cloud to the physical world. The Physical AI team develops services that provision, deploy, monitor, and secure AI software across processors inside autonomous machines - robots, vehicles, drones, agricultural equipment, and industrial workcells - operating in environments with limited or no cloud connectivity. We are looking for a Software Development Engineer I to help build edge-first fleet management for Physical AI. Your code will run on embedded processors inside autonomous machines orchestrating deployments across hierarchical heterogeneous processor topologies that often operate entirely offline. You will write production-quality C++ and Rust that handles local artifact caching cryptographic verification peer discovery over link-local networks and coordinated over-the-air (OTA) updates across nested processor hierarchies. This is a rare chance to work where cloud services meet physical machines shipping software that keeps autonomous systems running safely in the real world. Key job responsibilities • Implement well-scoped edge-runtime components in C++ and Rust against existing designs including local artifact caching peer discovery and coordinated OTA updates across nested processor hierarchies. • Build cloud-side services that orchestrate and monitor fleets of edge devices operating in disconnected environments. • Debug device and software issues alongside senior engineers identify root causes and contribute fixes that improve system reliability for autonomous machines operating offline. • Contribute to security systems that protect AI models from tampering on physically accessible hardware through cryptographic verification and signed-artifact workflows. • Participate in the full software development lifecycle with your team - scoping, code reviews, testing, deployment, and operational support - while using generative AI tools where appropriate to augment your productivity. A day in the life You will start your day reviewing code changes from teammates and participating in standup to align on priorities. From there, you might spend focused time writing and testing a new feature, pairing with a teammate to debug a tricky issue, or refining a deployment pipeline. You will regularly participate in code reviews, giving and receiving feedback that sharpens your craft. Expect to ask questions often, learn something new each week, and see your code reach real customers. About the team ABOUT AWS: Diverse Experiences Amazon values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the preferred qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply. If your career is just starting, hasn’t followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don’t let it stop you from applying. Why AWS Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform. We pioneered cloud computing and never stopped innovating — that’s why customers from the most successful startups to Global 500 companies trust our robust suite of products and services to power their businesses. When we feel supported in the workplace and at home, there’s nothing we can’t achieve in the cloud. Inclusive Team Culture Here at AWS, it’s in our nature to learn and be curious. Our employee-led affinity groups foster a culture of inclusion that empower us to be proud of our differences.
