Purpose of the role
To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities
Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Step into the role of Software Engineer - PBI Data Analytics at Barclays, where you'll design, develop, and improve business intelligence and reporting solutions using Microsoft Power BI and supporting data technologies, enabling business, platform, and technology capabilities for internal stakeholders.
You may be assessed on key critical skills relevant for success in role such as:
Build, automate, operate, and govern Power BI datasets, semantic models, reports, and dashboards.
Design and develop scalable business intelligence and analytical solutions.
Optimize Power BI data models, DAX calculations, refresh processes, and report performance.
Design and develop interactive dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
Develop optimized data models using DAX measures and calculated columns.
Perform data extraction, transformation, and loading using Power Query (M).
Translate business requirements into analytical and visualization solutions.
Collaborate with data engineers and business stakeholders.
Perform data validation and ensure accuracy of reported metrics.
Participate in peer reviews and promote BI best practices.
Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft Power BI (Power BI Desktop, Service, DAX).
Strong data analysis knowledge.
Knowledge on Jira & JQL queries to understand and enhance the existing PBI reports.
Expertise in designing efficient schemas and managing complex relationship cardinalities.
Knowledge on using an intermediatory data warehouse (Snowflake or SQL server).
Essential Skills / Qualifications
Strong hands-on experience in Power BI development, including Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, Power Query (M), data modelling, dashboards, and report publishing.
Strong data analysis skills, with the ability to interpret business requirements, define meaningful metrics, validate data, and communicate actionable insights. Experience integrating, transforming, and modelling data from enterprise sources such as SQL Server, Snowflake, APIs, Excel, and flat files.
Practical knowledge of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modelling, data quality, data governance, and secure handling of data.
Working knowledge of enterprise data platforms, including data storage, transformation, semantic modelling, analytics, and governed report deployment.
Experience optimizing Power BI semantic models and reports for performance, scalability, usability, and maintainability.
Ability to collaborate effectively with business stakeholders, data engineers, and technology teams throughout the solution delivery lifecycle.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
Desirable / Good-to-Have Skills
Experience with other data analytics and visualization tools, particularly Tableau; exposure to tools such as Qlik or similar platforms is beneficial.
Exposure to AI, machine learning, generative AI, or AI-assisted analytics, including awareness of responsible AI principles and practical business use cases.
Experience with Python, PySpark, SQL, or other technologies used for data preparation, automation, and advanced analytics.
Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric, Power BI Dataflows, Snowflake, Databricks, or similar modern data and analytics platforms.
Understanding of data pipelines, dataflows, dimensional models, data warehouse architectures, and migration of legacy reporting solutions to Power BI.
Familiarity with Jira and JQL for sourcing, analysing, and enhancing reporting data.
Experience working in banking, financial services, or another regulated enterprise environment.
