Job description
Lead the engineering team building the support experiences that make millions of advertisers confident and competent with Amazon Ads — owning the strategic direction, 1-2 year roadmap, and system architecture for products that are contextually relevant, easy to discover, and predictive of users' needs. You'll combine technical depth with strong people leadership to grow engineers, shape team culture, and deliver meaningful business impact.
The Ad Services team builds support experiences integrated into the advertiser's workflow — carefully balanced between self-service options and personalized assistance, context-aware, and designed to drive end-user productivity regardless of prior experience or knowledge. You will own the full software lifecycle for your team's systems — from design and architecture through deployment and ongoing operations. You'll define roadmaps that align with broader organizational goals, tackle complex technical challenges where the path forward is not always clear, and establish the team structure and engineering practices to deliver at scale.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead and grow a software development team, owning the team's charter, vision, and 1-2 year roadmap while aligning deliverables to organizational goals and customer needs
- Drive system design decisions across your team's architecture, balancing scalability, maintainability, performance, and security while evaluating tradeoffs with stakeholders and partner teams
- Coach and develop engineers through collaborative development planning, actionable feedback, and strategic project assignments that support both career growth and team objectives
- Establish and maintain operational excellence by building audit mechanisms, tracking quality metrics, and ensuring your team's software meets engineering best practices for reliability and customer experience
- Coordinate cross-team programs, define resourcing plans, and manage delivery risks to ensure your team consistently ships high-quality software on time
A day in the life
You might start your morning reviewing operational metrics and triaging any issues that surfaced overnight. From there, you join a design review with your engineers, helping them pressure-test assumptions on a new feature. After lunch, you sit down with a product partner to align on priorities for the upcoming quarter, then shift to a one-on-one with a direct report to discuss their growth plan. Throughout it all, you balance strategic thinking with hands-on problem solving.
About the team
Our team is focused on building and evolving software systems that directly impact Amazon's customers. We value collaboration, technical rigor, and a culture where every engineer has the support and autonomy to do their best work. As we continue to grow, we are investing in new capabilities and simplifying our architecture to move faster. This is an exciting time to join — you'll help shape the technical direction, build an inclusive team culture, and play a key role in delivering on our long-term vision.
